For over 145 Years, Edson Steering Wheels have
graced some of the world's finest yachts. In 1923 Edson's Wheel
Brochure stated, "When you are fitting out a yacht we will
be glad to figure on her steering gear, brass work, pumps and bells,
and can equip her with any kind of metal or wooden wheel, in either
stock or special design." We built wheels for Kaiser Wilhelm's
yacht "Meteor", and for his majesty King George V on "Britannia";
with "Atlantic", and "Etoile Filante" being
other noted yachts of the era steered by Edson wheels.
Many people believe that the steering wheel should
be considered a piece of the boat's jewelry, as a diamond necklace
graces a beautiful woman. Kaiser Wilhelm took that statement literally-
the wheel for his yacht "Meteor" was constructed in a
special rosewood and holly design, and featured semi-precious jewels
inlaid in the felloes of the wheel.
Wheels made a statement then, just as wheels constructed
today can make a statement by adding elegance and enjoyment to your
boat and your boating experience. |
